Your Questions Answered
Steps to healthy legs 1/2
Q) What steps can I take to help my legs feel better?
A) There are a number of changes you can make to help your legs feel better. A diet rich in vitamins and fibre but low in saturated fat is important and you should also stay active, keep mobile and take as much exercise as you can. Try and cut down your alcohol intake, quit smoking, lose weight if overweight and avoid wearing tight clothing, high heels or shoes with a hard sole.
Q) Are there any foods that I should / shouldn't eat?
A) For your overall health, you should aim for a well balanced diet that is low in saturated fat low in salt and high in fibre. Foods rich in vitamin C may help to make vein walls strong. You can also try to include as many superfoods in your diet as possible, for example apples are rich in vitamin C and benefit the circulation and oily fish can help reduce blood cholesterol levels and maintain healthy skin.
Q) Are there any special exercises I can do to make my legs feel better?
A) Any exercise that keeps your legs moving will help keep the blood pumping around your veins and alleviate painful leg symptoms. The best form of exercise is taking part in an active sport as often as four times per week, although even a brisk walk can make a big difference to the health of your legs.
Q) Are there any exercises I can do while sitting down?
A) In general remember to sit straight, with both feet on the ground and avoid crossing your legs or slouching, try to avoid getting too cold or too hot - both extremes are bad for your legs.
